The Grand Pacific Open is one of BC's largest chess tournaments and this will be its 15th annual!    The main event is a 6 round FIDE and CFC rated Swiss with over $6000 in prizes.  The Victoria Youth Chess Championship  and Victoria High School Championship will run just before the main event and  there are also  two free side events   -  Midnight Blitz with $200 in prizes and a Bughouse tournament to finish off the weekend.

Sections: 4 Sections:  Premier (FIDE and CFC rated); U2000 (CFC rated), U1700 (CFC rated), U1200 (CFC rated)

 

Round Times Rd 1 at 6:00 pm Friday April 15 ; Rds 2 and 3 at 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm Saturday April 16;

Rds 4 and 5 at 12:00 noon and 6:00 pm Sunday April 17; Rd 6 at 10:00 am Monday April 18

 

Prize Fund:  $7000 Guaranteed;   

 

Premier:    $1000+trophy / $600 / $400 / $250;  U2100 $450 + trophy / $350 / $175;  Top BC resident qualifies for BC Closed; 

Top Women: $375 / $275 / $175

U2000:  $400 + trophy / $300 / $200; U1800 $225 + trophy / $150 / $75

Top Women: $100, $75, $50

U1700:  $200 + trophy / $150 / $75;  U1400 $125 + trophy / $100 / $75;

U1100:  $125 + trophy / $100 / $75; U900: trophy

Misc: 

- Unrated (top score in any section) $100; 

- Biggest upset $50

- Door prizes for rounds 2-6 (must be present at start of round to win)

- Top women & biggest upset are in addition to any other prize won.   If there are not enough women in the Premier section, remaining prizes will be distributed in the U2000 section etc.

 

 

Time Control: Game in 90 minutes with a 30 second increment

 

Entry Fee , $80 registered and paid on or before March 7,, $90  registered and paid  on or before April 11, $105  on site.    $20 less if in U1200 section.      You may play up a section up to 200 rating points above your rating lifetime high.  Add $20 if playing up and your  current rating  is within 100 points of the section boundary.   Add $40 if playing up and your current rating is more than 100 points of the section boundary (eligibility to play up based on lifetime high, play up fees based on current rating).      2nd & higher entries from one family receive a family discount of $30.    Free Entry to those rated over 2400 FIDE provided you register by March 7.

 

CFC Membership:  CFC membership or CFC Tournament Membership required.   First time players who meet the conditions listed on our Policies page have a  CFC  Tournament Membership included in the entry fee (may be applied to a full membership if you desire).

Victoria Youth Chess Championship Friday April 15 (VYCC): Held just before the main event and is a qualifying event for the Canadian Youth Chess Championship (CYCC) and open to all youth players (Canadian and International).  You must register separately from your registration for the Grand Pacific Open.  Details for this event will be posted when available. 

 

Victoria High School Championship Friday April 15:  Held Just before the main event and is a qualifying event for the Canadian Youth Chess Championship, open to Victoria High School students.   You must register separately for this event.   Details for this event will be provided when available.
